Description
The hidden gem of East Kalimantan
One of the wonderful tourism in East Kalimantan is Derawan Archipelago. Initially known as a must-visit scuba diving destination, in recent years this place has experienced increasing popularity among non-divers as well.
Derawan is like the typical dream of a tropical paradise with secluded white sand beaches, clear blue water, and coconut trees providing some shade. Not only that, it is one of the hotspot to catch a sighting of a Whaleshark: the friendly underwater giant who is definitely not as scary as it sounds.
Visiting Derawan usually means visiting Maratua, Sangalaki, and Kakaban. The archipelago is located in Berau district, off the coast of East Kalimantan.
